Head Instructor - Mr Robert Muir

Mr Robert Muir (centre), holds fifth dan black belt. He took up taekwondo in 1973 with Mr Jack Roszinsky in Melbourne; he has also trained under Mr Young Youl Oh.


He has extensive experience as a successful competitor at state, national and international level, winning a silver medal in flyweight division at the 1978 Asian Championships, and reaching the semi-finals of the world championships in 1978.
He is an accredited referee and holds a Level 1 NCAS accreditation.
Mr Muir was named "Coach of the Year" for Queensland in 1998 and has been Queensland State President.  


In 2010 he was the State Team Coach for Taekwondo Queensland.  He teaches at Nerang, Coomera and at Helensvale Community Centre, as well as at several state schools on the Gold Coast.  Every Wednesday night attends the Carindale PCYC and teaches specialist skills in tournament techniques.


In 2011 he was the State Team Coach for Taekwondo Queensland.  He coached a team of Queensland taekwondo players, from Taekwondo Australia and a variety of club in the Malaysian Open. 

In 2012 he is the State Team Coach for Queensland taking a team of Queensland taekwondo players to the USA Taekwondo Open in Las Vegas.


Mr. Muir and his branches are members of Taekwondo Australia.

Carindale & Sandgate Instructors

Darryl Green

Carindale and Sandgate's head instructor, Mr Darryl Green, began training under Mr Robert Muir in 1989 and competed successfully at state and national level in the heavyweight division. He started teaching in Brisbane in 1994 at a small day care centre in Carina with 8 students. In 1996 he moved to the Carindale PCYC holding two classes a week. In 2012 he now teaches 10 classes a week with in excess of 140 students. 

The Brisbane branches currently employ three other assistant instructors.  In 2012 the club commissioned a specialty sparring instructor from Korea to further its student’s skills in the sport side of Taekwondo.

Mr. Green now holds a 4th dan black belt and is a first class Taekwondo Australia Referee and was named 'Referee of the Year' for Queensland in 2004.  He has refereed at every National Championships since 2004.  Mr. Green currently holds a Level 1 NCAS accreditation.

In 2009 he was selected by the Australian Olympic Committee to attend a World Taekwondo Federation International Referee Course in Las Vegas. In 2010 he was selected to represent Australia as a referee in the Oceania Taekwondo Competition in New Caledonia.  In 2011 he was selected to represent Australia as an International Referee at the Korean Open.  In 2012 Mr. Green was selected to represent Australia at the USA Taekwondo Open in Las Vegas.

In 2009 he was elected as the State Delegate for Taekwondo Queensland and regularly participated in National forums with Taekwondo Australia.  He was a finalist in the Queensland Government Sports awards in both 2009 and 2010. He was also the State Coaching Director for Taekwondo Queensland from 2010 to 2011.

In 2012 Mr. Green made the difficult decision for the Brisbane branches of Muir’s Taekwondo Centres to separate from Taekwondo Australia and join Sports Taekwondo Australia Inc.   This enabled the students of the Brisbane branch to represent their country at International level in World Taekwondo Federation events and to allow his students and himself to officiate as a referee at the highest National and International levels.

David Carroll

Muir’s Carindale welcomes back Mr David Carroll from living in North Queensland for six years.

Mr Carroll began learning Taekwondo and Judo from the late Mr Kyu Suk Chang in Melbourne in 1974. He achieved some success in state and national tournaments in the late 70’s and commenced refereeing in 1980. He moved to rural Victoria and conducted his own successful club there for 13 years before moving to Brisbane in 1997 and joining Muir’s in 1998 as an instructor. He currently holds the rank of  5th Dan Black Belt.

Mr Carroll has been a Level 1 Coach and a First Class referee since 1986. He has officiated as many, many state and National tournaments since then. He is a qualified and experienced secondary teacher and holds a Senior First Aid Certificate.  He has also presented many introductory Taekwondo and self-defence classes to schools and community groups. He has been a very successful competitor in the Masters division in Queensland in sparring, and especially so in Poomse competitions.

In 2011, Mr Carroll moved back to Brisbane and rejoined the team at Muir’s Carindale. He is looking forward to helping students develop their technical skills and become well-rounded martial artists.

Edward Carroll

Edward (Eddie) Carroll began training in 1994 under his father, Mr. David Carroll. He started training with Muir's Taekwondo in 1998 at the Carindale Branch. In 2001, he attained his black belt, and received his 2nd dan in 2005 with Troy Anderson and Mick Ward. He began instructing in 2005. In 2008 he attained his third dan under Mr.  Muir. 

Until 2011 Ed taught classes at the Carindale PCYC on Thursday nights.  In 2011 until 2012 Edward trained in Korea under a Master instructor and further developed his taekwondo skills.  Edward is currently a competitor at State and National events in the middle weight sparring category. 

Oxenford Instructors

Troy Anderson

Troy Anderson commenced training under Mr Muir in 1989. He obtained his first dan black belt in 2003 and obtained his secound dan in 2005. He has been a member of the 2003 and 2005 Queensland State Teams, achieving silver and bronze medal positions respectively at the Australian Titles. He still currently competes in sparring competitions.

Michael Ward

Co-instructor Michael (Mick) Ward also began training under Mr Muir in 1997 and has been an assistant instructor helping Mr Muir teaching his classes. He obtained his black belt in 2003. He obtained his 2nd dan with Troy Anderson and Edward Carroll in 2005.
